In Te Ngahere we had Tracy come in she’s from swim safe. What I was learning was how to stay safe in the water. One really important thing I learnt from Tracy was how to stay safe in riptides. Say if you think there’s a riptide grab a stick to see what will happen, if it comes back to you then it’s safe, but if it goes out and goes under it’s not safe to swim in. I also learnt that if you get caught in a riptide you have to stay calm, relax and lay on your back then signal someone to help you. The second important thing I learnt was you need Flare guns if your out in the sea, you can use the flare gun to signal coastguards. She also told us that the Flare guns can blow up in your hands, the Flare guns are also non-waterproof, so you can dunk it in the water to let it go out if you think it’s going to blow up.
Have you ever been on a Boat before?
