Illusional Art

Last week in Te Ngahere when the year 7’s and 8’s were gone we did an Illusional type of art. First we had to do 6 intersecting lines, then we had to draw curves going up & going down. After that we had to go over the penciled lines with vivid, then we had to color in every second line with 2 colours. We coloured in every second line with 1 color & color in the up curves & the down curves. After we coloured in we shaded with the same colors in the ups & down curves we didn’t colour in. What I could do better next time is to not get distracted so I don’t make a lot of mistakes. What I enjoyed was doing the art. Do you know how to do Illusional Art? Here’s Mine!

Tesselation Art

In Te Ngahere we have been doing art about Tessellation. Tessellation is a repeated pattern that doesn’t have any gaps or overlaps, overlap is when you put 2 lines on top of eachother. What I enjoyed was colouring in the shapes, I was learning how to do a different art, What I found hard was to get the shapes to have no gaps or overlaps, What I could do better next time is to have no gaps in my art.

Movie

In Te Ngahere we have been making movies. We were meant to be in a group of 3 but Autumn was away so we let her be in our group, then we just had to be in a group of 4. My group was Autumn, AJ, and Mark. We started the movies in term 3. But term 3 ended so we filmed at AJ’s house. We could only film half of the movie because Mark was away. When term 4 started we filmed the rest of our movie, but we struggled because some of us forgot to bring the stuff we had to use for our movie. The next week we had finished the movie and put it all together on IMOVIE we deleted all the videos so other groups could film, but we forgot to save it then it was all deleted. Luckily AJ had the videos saved to her chromebook so we only had to film the last part of the movie. The next day we filmed again and we saved the movie before we deleted all the videos. What I was learning was how to make movies. What my group did well was work together. What we could do better next time is to put the camera closer to the person who’s talking. Have you ever made a movie?

PE/Athletics practise

In Te Ngahere we had PE practise for Athletic’s day which is going to be in week 6.  For PE practice there are 5 groups and i’m in group 5. The rotations are Shot put, Long jump, High, jump, Sprints relays and Discus. Trainings are on Wednesday and Friday. For the first week of training I learnt how to do shot put, when you do shot put you have to put your hand by your ear and make a straight arm throw. On Friday I learnt how to do long jump, you have to take a distance to run then you jump and do the longest jump to be the furthest. What I was learning was how to do athletics, What I enjoyed was doing Long jump, what I found challenging was shot put.

What I learnt from Tracy for Swim safe

In Te Ngahere we had Tracy come in she’s from swim safe. What I was learning was how to stay safe in the water. One really important thing I learnt from Tracy was how to stay safe in riptides. Say if you think there’s a riptide grab a stick to see what will happen, if it comes back to you then it’s safe, but if it goes out and goes under it’s not safe to swim in. I also learnt that if you get caught in a riptide you have to stay calm, relax and lay on your back then signal someone to help you. The second important thing I learnt was you need Flare guns if your out in the sea, you can use the flare gun to signal coastguards. She also told us that the Flare guns can blow up in your hands, the Flare guns are also non-waterproof, so you can dunk it in the water to let it go out if you think it’s going to blow up. Have you ever been on a Boat before?

STEAM CHALLENGE

In Te Ngahere for the first day back at School we did a STEAM challenge. STEAM means Science, Technology, Engineering, art & math. We made a Tower only made out of 2 sheets of newspaper & a 30 cm piece of tape. We were in groups of 3 my group was AJ & Autumn. Our first Idea was to make it wide so that the base at the bottom would be stable so it could stand. What we realized it was not tall enough because we saw other people had twisted their newspaper to make it long. What we found hard was making it tall and making it stand at the same time, what my group found enjoyable was listening to each other’s ideas, what we could do better next time is to help each other more. If you can make a tower out of random objects then try use 2 sheets of newspaper & a 30 cm piece of tape & tell me what happened.

Quality Blog posting

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to write a quality blog post. Our class had to read all the information about the importance of your Title, Introduction, DLO, Reflection, Sources & Questions. The most important thing in a post is your Title because it tells the audience what your post is about, after we had read all about those things we had to write them down what they all meant & had to write them in our own words after that we made a DLO. I was learning how to write a Quality Blog post, I enjoyed writing all of it down. Did this teach you something with your blogging?

Oral Hygiene

On Wednesday the 18th Te Ngahere had two Visitors and their names were Ulrike and Chantelle. They taught us about Oral hygiene, Oral hygiene means when you have a clean mouth. I learnt that you have to brush your teeth in a circular motion. I also learnt that you have to brush your teeth at night because during the day you make saliva, and at night you don’t make much saliva so you have to brush your teeth. For example, when you look at something really yummy you make saliva in your mouth. I also learnt that if you don’t brush your teeth you will get Gingivitis which is when you get plaque near your gum and it infects your gums in your mouth. She also let two people put this stuff on their teeth which sticks to plaque and changes colors on your teeth, Dark Blue is 3-4 days old plaque, Light blue is 2 days old plaque and Purple will be 1 day old plaque. After they left we made a DLO about it. I will finish DLO soon.

Cross Country

Last week on Friday the 30th of August Paihia School, had Cross Country at the Bledisloe Domain. Cross Country is our School’s participation Day, we all run in different age groups because if the School ran all together it wouldn’t be fair on the younger children, so we do age groups the 5 yr old Boys, then Girls.  6 yr old Boys, then Girls. and so on. My age group was the 10 yr old Girls, our run was running on the Field through the gates up the Hill go along the Hill, and then go back down the Hill back through the gates and then on the Field to the FINISH LINE. My place I came was last I didn’t really care though because it’s all about participation and having fun. What I was learning was it’s not about winning it’s about having fun and giving it a go, What I enjoyed was giving it a go, What I could do better next time is to run faster.

Energize with Gina

This week in Te Ngahere we have been doing energize with Gina again, but this time Gina taught us about what drinks are healthy and unhealthy. She brought cards to organize the drinks into. The group of cards were (Everyday Drinks) is a healthy type of drink like water is naturally healthy (Sometimes Drinks) is like you can drink Powerade sometimes because it has not much sugar and it’s has got some goodness for your body  (Hardly ever Drinks) she told us hardly ever drinks are like the Mother drinks they have caffeine in them so it’s not that good to have them all the time that’s why we put the Mother drink in the hardly ever drinks group. I was sort of confused at parts because the drinks she put in the sometimes group, I personally thought that they were in the hardly ever group or the everyday groups. The best part about energize was that we got the prize for winning the quiz. The last time she was with us we won, so this time she gave us our prizes which just were getting a chocolate or strawberry milkshake in cartons for the winners. What I learnt was to know what type of drinks were healthy or not, What I enjoyed was winning a prize, What I found hard was not understanding what she meant, What I could do better next time is to not get too confused.

What I was learning was more te reo Maori words, What I enjoyed was taking photos.

Cross Country

In Te Ngahere we have been practising running for the event Cross Country, we all have been trying our best to run and get it done.  To run faster than we can we had to have a timer when we finish and whatever time we land on we have to improve, the first time our class ran we ran twice, everybody tried their best to finish the run and all got different times like I got 9:13. I improved the next run & got 8:21 so I was proud that I improved. The next week we ran we had to run 3 laps to try improve much more but I didn’t improve because my time was 13:42.

I am learning to improve my running, what I enjoy is the fresh air while running, I like it when I try my best.

Taku Whanau

In Te Ngahere we have made Taku Whanau, it is when you talk about your family in Maori. We had an example of how to make it and what to say in our script, after the example we started on our Taku whanau, we had to introduce some of our family like grandparents, siblings, aunty, uncle and your cousins. We made a Google Slide to create our taku whanau, it had to be checked and screen recorded when we've recorded it then we were done. What i was learning was more Te Reo Maori .What i enjoyed was when I recorded. What I think I could do better next time is to make sure my Te Reo Maori is pronounced better. Taku Whanau Video
